Hydroponics over Traditional Farming

Why Hydroponics?

60%

less water

Water Savings

Hydroponic uses 60 to 70% less water than conventional agriculture as water is recirculated and reused. Loss through evaporation or soil seepage is nill.

30%

faster growth

Nutrient uptake

Hydroponic systems allow growers to create the ideal blend of nutrients for plants. Hydroponic systems use sterile mediums, reducing risks to the plants.

20%

higher yield

Sky-high Yield

The right plants grow fast with the right hydroponic system, balanced nutrient mixes, and perfect light exposure. You can negate pests, and bad weather.

No soil

less water

Water Savings

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Instead, plants are grown in a sterile growing medium, such as Rockwool, coconut fiber, perlite, or sand.

No pesticide

faster growth

Nutrient uptake

Pesticides are not used because there is less risk of pest infestation. Plants get the nutrients directly in a solution, which allows them to develop faster free from diseases.

No weed

higher yield

Sky-high Yield

Hydroponic uses growing medium like peat moss, coir, perlite, vermiculite, rockwool, clay pebbles etc. Only seeds/plants put there are those put there by the grower.

Plants for Hydroponic Gardens

  • Almost any plant can be grown hydroponically when given the right growing conditions, but there are certain vegetables, fruits and flowers that are best for growing crops indoors throughout the year.
  • The easiest plants to start with are greens like lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, and kale, which can give you a salad-worthy bounty all year round.
  • You can also have a fresh herb garden right in your kitchen with herbs such as basil, parsley, oregano, cilantro, and mint. If you have more room, you can try fruiting plants like tomatoes, strawberries, and hot peppers.
  • In the winter, focus on crops that don’t produce fruit, even though you’re growing a garden indoors. This includes herbs and leafy greens, which will thrive year-round.

The crop yield of a plant depends on the quality of the seeds, the variety, the growing conditions (light, humidity, temperature, air circulation, elevation, EMFs, etc.). Here are some average crop yields:

  • Cherry tomato: maximum of 12 to 15 plants per tower. Depending on the variety you can harvest 10 to 20 kg per plant per growing cycle.
  • Regular tomatoes: up to 12 to 15 plants per tower. 20 to 40 kg per plant depending on the variety.
  • Cucumbers: 15/20 plants per tower. A cucumber can vary between 100 gm and 250 gm. Depending on the variety of plant you can harvest about 15-30 cucumbers per plant. Some variety plants might give more or less.
  • Strawberries: Always a fan favorite, you can have 40 plants per tower. Depending on varieties harvest can be from 100 gm to 1 kg per plant.
  • Eggplants: up to 15 to 18 plants recommended per tower maximum = 3 to 6 kgs per plant depending on the variety.
  • Leafy green and herbs: 40 plants per tower. From 100 to 175 g every 3 to 5 weeks. Once again, it all depends on the crop: it takes much longer for basil than it does for arugula. Depending on varieties, harvest cycles vary from 14 days to 60 days with harvest cycles every 3 weeks on average.
